Overview

Your flight to Puerto Maldonado will offer you a panoramic view of the winding Madre de Dios river and canopy of jungle trees that caracterize the southern Amazon baisen. Enjoy fresh, local meals at the restaurant in between guided excursions to sites such as Chuncho collpa de Guacamayo (Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick), where large concentrations of macaws and parrots are easily visible. Travel by motorboat as you watch the sunrise and try to spot birds, capibaras, caimans, tapirs and with luck jaguar by the riverbank. Encounter unusual insects, incredibly large trees, and perhaps some monkeys along the shaded jungle trail. After your excursión, relax at Collpa Chuncho Suites with cocktail from the bar while listening to the sounds of the lively wildlife around you.

Next day we visit Collpa de Sachavaca (Tapir Clay Lick), the most famous visitor here is the Tapir (Tapirus terrestris), to eat the clay (mineral salts). The Tapir is the largest mammal of the Amazon, an adult Tapir can weigh up to 330Kg, here we may have chance to monkey, deer, or peccaries. Try to identify recent visitors to the Clay Lick by examining their foodprints.

Itinerary

DAY 1: COLLPA CHUNCHO SUITES
PUERTO MALDONADO TO TAMBOPATA RIVER – COLLPA CHUNCHO SUITES.
Your jungle adventure bigins when your oficial tour guide greets you at the airport, bus station, or hotel in Puerto Maldonado. Your guide will lead you on all activities for the duration of your trip. We will take you to Puerto Maldonado city center, to do some last minute shopping for things we might have forgotten such as batteries, rain poncho, flashlight for night activities, etc.
Then journey for 90-minutes part fields and farms to the boatport community Filadelfia. Next, enjoy a relaxing 30-minutes motorboat ride on the Tambopata River. On the way, you maybe see local people working (artisanal mining) in the riverbank. When you arrive at the lodge, your tour guide will bring you to the main house, for the check-in. The manager will welcome you with a cool drink made from the local fruits and mineral water. After check-in, you will be escorted to your private cabaña, named after a local indigenous tribe, where you can relax and unpack. All meals and beverages at Collpa Chuncho Suites are made using fresh fruits and garden vegetables, as well as other local ingredients. Introduction to the Jungle: This afthernoon, your guide will introduce you to the jungle. Enjoy a botanical walk along jungle trails to discover ancient trees, monkeys, macaw (local name GUACAMAYO), tucan, and other wildlife, Lern your way around the area. Jungle Night Walk: Before dinner, your jungle specialist guide will lead you on a night walk along the jungle trails where you can experince the sounds of the amazon jungle to try to spot night insects, night monkey, night birds, snakes, with luck other night animals. Return, to our restaurant for a dinner characterizing local cuisine, from the bar, you may wish to select some Peruvian beer, wine, or an exotic cocktail, made especialy for you retourn to the cabaña and fall sleep to the misic of the amazon jungle all around you.
DAY 2: COLLPA CHUNCHO MACAW CLAY LICK

TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE – COLLPA CHUNCHO MACAW CLAY LICK

Wake up early and join your guide for a 45-minutes boat ride to the Macaw and parrot Clay Lick. Watch sunrise on the Tambopata river from your boat. Falowing a quick check-in at the Rager Station, try to spot caimans and birds, as well mammal’s such as tapir, capibara, and monkeys along the riverbank. At the clay lick, you will observe a large concentration of several species of jungle macaws, parrots, and parakeets. You can even see a few toucans and other bird species. Enjoy your boxed breakfast surrounded by nature, we will enjoy the macaws and parrots all this morning.

Return to the Lodge in the late morning. Relax time in your lodge or walk around the property grounds looking for smaller wildlife. Enjoy lunch in our restaurant.

Jungle Tree Walk:

After lunch, enjoy your jungle specialist guide for a walk through both primary and secondary forest. Unter the treetop canopy encounter trees such as ceiba, iron, garlic tree, and many other tree species. These are some of the largest trees found in the Amazon jungle, your guide will explain the region’s medicinal plants and the critical importance of the rainforest within the ecosystem.

Caiman Night Experince:

After sun sets, your guide will take you on an night expedition in Tambopata river by boat. We will search for caiman, nocturnal birds, capybara, and other animals that are most active at night. As well look up to the Amazon sky to find the planet Venus and identify brightly illuminated constellacions such as the Southerm Cross or Orion’s Belt.

Return to the Lodge-restaurant for dinner.

DAY 3: TAMBOPATA EXPEDITION

COLLPA CHUNCHO SUITES – TAMBOPATA EXPEDITION (TAPIR CLAY LICK)

Piranha Fishing:

After breakafst, take a motorboat ride, then enjoy a moderate hike deep into the primary forest. You will see jungle trees over 150 feet tall that are more then a century old. Along the way, looking for animals, monkeys, butterflies, unique jungle flowers, At the edges of the wild, almost an unexplored Black Lake. Here in this lake where we do sport fishing, Let’s try fishing for piranha and other species of fish. You may can see hoatzin (Pre-historic bird), you also try to spot other lake birds such as cormorants, kingfichers, herons, with lucky river otters.

Return to the lodge for lunch.

Tapir Clay Lick:

After luch we take 1 hour walk through primary forest to the Collpa de Sachavaca (Tapir Clay Lick). Along the way, you may see capuchino monkey, howler monkey, woodpeckers, wild turkey may make an appearance. At Tapir Clay Lick, the most famous visitor is the Tapir (Tapirus terrestris), to eat the clay (mineral salts). DAY 4: LAST DAY IN PUERTO MALDONADO (BUS STATION OR AIRPORT)

Enjoy one more time our breakfast before checking out. Return to Puerto Maldonado, we drop you off at your hotel, bus station, airport. In that case we recommend taking your flight in the afternoon. Domestic and internacional flights are not included in tour packages.
